Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy

Let me start off by saying this trilogy is risque, to put it mildly. There are some (okay, maybe a lot of) very detailed, graphic bedroom scenes, which I was warned of before I started the books. But people were raving about them, and they were all the talk on the news, so I wanted to see what the hype was all about. The first book: 50 Shades of Grey The author definitely doesn't waste any time getting into the gritty bedroom scenes. They. Were. Graphic. As in, made-me-blush graphic. As in, I caught myself turning the book so the husband couldn't see what filth I was reading. Yes, that steamy. Here's the gist of the first book (without giving anything away)...basically an extremely wealthy, good-looking, 20-something guy falls for a young, naive, unsuspecting college girl. Let's just say he has some baggage. And some major issues with relationships. I liked the "love story" part of it. But the bedroom scenes were a bit much for me. I got to the point where I was kind of skimming over the dirty details and fast-forwarding to the conversations and story line. I read the book in one sitting (in the car) in about 4 hours. At one point I didn't know if I would read the other two books, but the end is a real cliffhanger. Like "Who Shot J.R." cliffhanger-esque. So, of course, I downloaded the next book immediately. The second book: 50 Shades Darker* I don't know if it was because I was accustomed to all the bedroom stuff or there was less of it in the second book, but I really, really liked the second book. There was more story line, at least to me. The second book follows the same two characters from the first book, and I really liked seeing their relationship progress. The third book: 50 Shades Freed* I loved the third book. I read it in two days (well, actually nights when I couldn't sleep). The story line thickens...there's a lot of action...there's even less dirty bedroom scenes...I really enjoyed it. And I felt like everything kind of came together and was resolved in the end. There weren't any loose strings. The Movie I'm glad I read the books, because, of course, they're making these into a movie (or movies? Not sure.). I can't wait to see who they cast for Anastasia and Christian. This article says Rob Pattison and Kristen Stewart would be perfect and E! News is reporting that Dakota Fanning and Chris Hemsworth are being looked at. I guess we'll have to wait and see. They haven't set a release date as far as I can tell. My Overall Opinion I liked the books. I'm glad I read them. If you can't handle steamy bedroom scenes, these definitely aren't for you. Like I said, I sort of started skimming over the dirty parts to get to the real story, but there's no way to completely avoid them. Also, seeing Christian (the billionaire with baggage) evolve throughout the course of the books was interesting. Once you finally kind of learned his story and why he is the way he is, it was a little easier to understand his character. I also loved the way Anastasia started off a a shy, naive college girl and by the end of the trilogy she was much more assertive and aggressive and independent. The author did a great job with the two main characters. So, I would say check them out. If you don't like the first book, put it down and you haven't lost anything (except your $9.99 or whatever it is to purchase or download the book).
